The Power of Bedtime Routines in Leadership

Hi there,

I recently joined Houston Business Radio to talk about a topic that doesn’t usually make it into leadership conversations: bedtime routines. Yes, you read that right. Great leadership starts with structure—and that includes how you end your day.

Predictability and routine aren’t just for productivity junkies or morning people. They’re critical tools for calming the nervous system, training the brain, and setting the stage for clear decision-making.

Why Bedtime Routines Matter in Leadership

During the podcast, we explored how high-performing professionals often fall into the trap of thinking, “If I’m not on 24/7, people will think I’m slacking.” That mindset is a recipe for burnout.

As leaders, we often push ourselves to be “always on,” but in reality, rest is a key part of our leadership strategy. Rest is not laziness—it’s an intentional and necessary part of our process. When we pause, slow down, and become intentional about our rest, we unlock the brain’s ability to focus, reframe, and respond with clarity.

Rewiring the Rest and Productivity Mindset

I teach my clients to rewire the belief that rest equals slacking. Instead, we focus on the fact that when we prioritize rest, we empower our brains and bodies to operate at their highest potential. This doesn’t mean we slack off, it means we are strategically preparing for the challenges ahead by recharging and resetting.

How Bedtime Routines Influence Leadership Performance

The benefits of a structured evening routine are vast:

  • Improved focus: Sleep helps sharpen your ability to focus the next day.
  • Reframed mindset: A restful night allows you to tackle challenges with fresh perspectives.
  • Restored energy: Rejuvenating your body and mind for peak performance.

Implementing these routines doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s about being intentional with the time you give yourself to recharge. When we create the right structures, our leadership can flourish, and our teams will benefit from our presence and power.

Small Shifts, Big Impact

I shared on the podcast how simple shifts—especially at night—can shift your internal rhythm and help you show up more powerfully the next day. Sustainable success doesn’t come from working nonstop; it comes from learning how to be present—not constantly reacting, but acting with intention.
